The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is one of the world’s richest countries in terms of natural resources and occupies a central strategic position in the global mining economy. Thanks to the abundance and diversity of its mineral resources, the DRC is now a key player in global supply chains for critical minerals, which are essential for industrialisation, electrification and the energy transition.

According to official data, more than 1,100 mineral substances have been identified in the DRC, but only around 50 are currently being mined on an industrial scale. This disparity highlights both the country’s immense geological potential and the structural challenges associated with its economic development.
